De werken van alle 24 kunstenaressen en kunstenaars zullen daarna in First Book Night in het BBK Kunstforum Düsseldorf worden vertoond, van 30 juni tot 17 juli 2022.

In deze tentoonstelling toont Maria Korporal zowel enkele van haar kunstenaarsboeken met etsen en een houten boek-object uit de jaren 1990, als een volledig nieuw en nooit eerder tentoongesteld werk: Invocatie van de steen, een projectie van een animatiefilm op een handgemaakt boek met gedrukte tekst. Een selectie die een goed inzicht geeft in haar ontwikkeling van grafische kunsten naar mediakunst.

Maria Korporal presenteert een multimedia-installatie waarin haar omvangrijke nieuwe videowerk Pervitin Power, met muziek van Edoardo Pistolesi Somigli, een centrale rol speelt. De drug Pervitin, tegenwoordig bekend als crystal meth, werd door de nazi’s in de Tweede Wereldoorlog gebruikt om hun soldaten te manipuleren. In de video wordt de vervreemding van waarneming en moraal duidelijk. Naast de grote projectie van Pervitin Power omvat de installatie ook een reeks houtskooltekeningen en monitoren met korte animatiefilms.
Na de opening van de tentoonstelling, vanaf 1 november, zal Pervitin Power ook online te zien zijn in ESSENCE/ABSENCE, Paviljoen van The Wrong Biennale n°5, curator Matteo Campulla.

Es gibt Künstler*innen, die verfolgen ihr ganzes Leben eine strenge Linie, formal und inhaltlich. Peinture pure, Sculpture pure.
Es gibt andere wie uns, die navigieren zwischen den Medien, kombinieren, intervenieren, sampeln, collagieren. Es entstehen Mischformen, Hybride. Das Navigieren erfolgt nie ohne Kompaß, nie ohne den Blick in den gesetzmäßigen Gang der Gestirne, der Berechnung der Meridiane, und so werden so neue Kontinente entdeckt, neue Formen erfunden.
Die Besucher gehen an Bord, werden interaktiv Teil der Reise.

Wir hoffen auf das persönliche Boarding am 21. Mai zur Vernissage um 19h, so die Inzidenzen es zulassen. Auf jeden Fall wird es einen Online-Rundgang im Netz geben. Ein Gespräch mit der Crew findet am 28. Mai um 19h statt (Artist Talk).

Klimakipppunkte

Vanwege Corona is de oorspronkelijk voor 2020 geplande tentoonstelling nu in gewijzigde vorm geopend. In de showroom achter de ramen van het VBK zijn bijdragen te zien van Rosika Janko-Glage, Helga Wagner, Barbara Czarnojahn, Maria Korporal, Andrea Streit, Lupe Godoy en Tom Albrecht. Andere deelnemers aan de tentoonstelling zijn Conrad Brockstedt, Burchard Vossmann, Lina Schobel en Paul Reßl, alsmede het Kollektiv thinking of Yves (Andrea Streit en Nancy Happ).

De tentoonstelling werd virtueel geopend via Facebook en zal gedurende de hele duur van de tentoonstelling worden begeleid. Zodra de situatie in Corona het toelaat, zal de tentoonstelling in haar geheel en in het echt voor bezoekers worden opengesteld.

KLIMAKIPPPUNKTE: omslagpunten in het klimaat – tentoonstelling in VBK
In hun werk behandelen de kunstenaars de oorzaken en gevolgen van klimaatverandering: de uitdrukkingsvormen zijn volledig individueel en variëren van schilderen tot collage, van video tot installatie en conceptuele kunst. Het resultaat is een zeer complexe tentoonstelling over een virulent onderwerp: tegelijkertijd opwindend, stimulerend voor discussie en vermakelijk.
Het project wordt gefinancierd door GMS Immobilia KG.

Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing of a male figure perfectly inscribed in a circle and square, known as the “Vitruvian Man”, illustrates what he believed to be a divine connection between the human form and the universe. Beloved for its beauty and symbolic power, it is one of the most famous images in the world. But what would happen if a female figure takes the place of the male figure of the Vitruvian Man? Will the divine spell with the universe brake up?
Less famous than Leonardo da Vinci, but well known and important for his pioneering work in photographic motion studies was the English photographer Eadweard Muybridge. His sequences of the human figure in motion show men and women occupied with several activities. A closer view reveals a traditional role pattern: the men manifest themselves in amazing athletic movements, while the women are busy with domestic activities or children. One of the sequences that deeply impressed me is called “Turning Around in Surprise and Running Away”. It shows a naked woman who covers her eyes and her genitals while she twists her body away from the camera.
Muybridge’s woman and Leonardo’s man are physically similar in many respects. They both express the ideal forms and proportions set by the classic standards of human beauty, but their self-awareness of the place in the world they belong to seems very different. The video endorses this observation and shows symbolically how the eyes of society guided by conventions determine this attitude.

In all artistic forms of expression, 65 participating artists of the VBK take a look back at the past decades or / and a look ahead to the 2020s. In many ways they reflect the open theme of the group exhibition. Political, philosophical, biological, cosmological as well as personal positions will be on display.

The 2010s end. The 2020s follow.
We have often remembered the end of the “Sixties” this year. The year 1969 is 50 years ago. The moon landings and “Woodstock” were events that ushered in the departure of all humanity, or the young generation. Subculture became pop culture in the following years. Millions of people worldwide demonstrated against the Vietnam War, and in Germany the anti-nuclear movement was formed. In 1989, the peaceful revolution took place in the GDR. The wall fell, and a year later Germany was reunited. Today, in 2019, another young generation is on the road. The “Friday for Future” movement demonstrates worldwide against climate change. We do not know what will happen. Digitization is progressing, and again we do not know where the journey is going. Populists everywhere, right-hander worldwide. The world is in motion.

a multimedial art exhibition in PRAGUE + BERLIN

Under the title Zeitverschiebung (Time-Shift), the second part of a multimedial art exchange exhibition between Prague and Berlin will take place. At the initiative of the Prague artists for a dialogue with their western neighbours and especially with their fellow artists from Berlin, we can now announce the second exhibition that will be held in the Gallery of the Verein Berliner Künstler. The exhibitions, curated by both partners, include photography, drawing, painting, video and an interactive installation on the topic and the specific cultural context. The concept of a direct dialogue, i.e. the dialogic confrontation of the artworks, promises to be an exciting exhibition. Not in the least because Prague and Berlin are linked by a long cultural history, which is increasingly reflected today as a mutual interest between the younger artists.
