Qurious Qaos – Pandora’s Box is an interactive installation in which visitors put on a pair of specially designed glasses and see themselves on a screen, wearing glasses with animated eyes, alongside Pandora’s Box. By pressing a button, they can open and close the box.
When the box opens, a hybrid human-animal figure appears on its lid in hand-drawn animation. I create these animations using charcoal drawings, which are then used as prompts for an AI system that transforms them into three-dimensional figures. The figures leap out of the box and swarm around the visitors’ heads, like monsters unleashed into the digital world.
At the same time, visitors become part of this digital world, seeing their own mirrored image with eyes that move independently of their control.
In Qurious Qaos, Pandora’s Box becomes a metaphor for the unknown and unpredictable nature of the digital world and artificial intelligence.
The work raises a question inspired by Goya’s The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters:
Does the sleep of human reason produce AI monsters?
